It all started with a magazine flatrate. My time-loving daddy got a magic thing for his tablet at Christmas.
And now guess who clicked through the huge library first. Exactly, Madame Mia. In the British Veggie I came across the Veganuary . The idea: Live vegan for a month after weeks of lots of good food. Without meat, without milk, without cheese, without eggs.
Vegan for a Month
Let me first bring you up to date. Today is the 06.01.2016. That means I’ve actually been vegan for six days. Vegan in Denmark, without a supermarket and prior planning is relatively difficult. That’s why my experiment started the day before yesterday.
I can tell you, I feel subtly challenged right now.
Have you ever tried to live vegan for a long time? Phew! What you have to watch out for. Once you pay attention to it, it feels like at least one animal ingredient is hidden in all foods.
And that’s exactly what the Veganuary is for. At the moment, I can not imagine giving up animal products completely for a longer period of time. But for a month to get a feel for this diet, the opportunities and the risks – that’s wonderful.
Ok. Vegan shopping is not so easy. I notice that at the latest at the refrigerated counter. No milk, no yogurt, no cheese, no quark. I have to swallow pretty good.
15 meter refrigerated counter and more than a meager cup of soya yogurt does not jump out for me? To be honest, I’m a bit depressed and put the big purchase on a visit to the health food store of trust.
Which brings us to the next point. With my normal budget for the weekly shopping I will definitely not get along this month. How much more will it be? No idea! I will keep you up to date.
Hand on the heart. In some moments, I think Mia, what have you been up to again? I hope you realize that now you have to spend a month full of yearning for the glass of Niederegger marzipan, right?
And yet I’m really looking forward to the time.
- A better feeling for the vegan cuisine.
- Understanding how many foods hide animal ingredients.
- Significantly higher food costs.
- Slight lack of understanding in the environment.
- Get to know a new and exciting diet by trying it out.
So, get to the bacon. Uh, the tofu! I will report!
Now I’m curious: Have you ever had a vegan diet for a long time? Tips, tricks or great recipes, anyone?
