I have a divided relationship with avocados. On the one hand I adore the creamy flesh and the nutty taste. There is really nothing better than a ripe avocado, right?
And then also the avocado feta bread aka my new favorite casserole.
Creamy avocado on a thick slice of farmhouse bread. On top of it spicy feta cheese and a decent shot of olive oil. I tell you, absolutely addictive and easypeasy in 10 minutes on the plate.
But let’s be honest, why does this little diva make it so hard for us?
You know the misery: For days we wait for the avocado to be ripe. Finally, we think so. We cut open the avocado and in our thoughts are already relishing a big spoonful of creamy avocado meat in the mouth.
And then? Then the avocado is overripe. A typical case for the barrel. Damn!
Pretty annoying, you might think. But fortunately, there are a few tricks that will not happen to you from now on.
Curious? Well then go ahead.
This is how it works with the perfectly ripe avocado
1st print test
A ripe avocado gives way slightly if you press on it.
2. Eyes on the purchase
Very important: Buy solid copies and let them ripen in the local kitchen. The avocados in the supermarket are often already overripe and full of brown spots.
3. Remove Stem Anchor
The stalk approach test also performs well. To check if the avocado is ripe, remove the small stalk on the more pointed side of the avocado. If the spot below is green, the avocado is fresh. If the spot is already brownish, that could be a sign of over-maturity.
So. Now you are armed for any avocado outrages and I can keep on flocking to you from my new favorite haunt.
